For anyone interested in persuing their Advanced, Master level, or just want to keep up with blind tasting, here is the 2014 revised Court of Master Sommeliers Tasting Grid.
I've always used my own grid and the international competition standards that include:
- Food pairings
- Service temperature
- Service glass (Chablis, White Burgundy, Bordeaux)
- Decanting (Yes/No)
However, this is your Bible that you would need to commit to memory. Every box and description, with a consistent order.
A few changes with the 2014 grid. Even though they were previouly used orally, just not stated on the 2013 grid:
Expanding the Fruit Characted on the nose: (Baked, stewed, dried, peels, desiccated, tart, jammy)
Organic versus Inorganic Earth/Mineral
Balance! Always used but not noted on the 2013 grid.
Some order changes in the structure to group things like body & alcohol.
