For anyone interested in persuing their Advanced, Master level, or just want to keep up with blind tasting, here is the 2017 revised Court of Master Sommeliers Tasting Grid.
I've always used my own grid and the international competition standards that include:
- Food pairings
- Service temperature
- Ageability
- Service glass (Chablis, White Burgundy, Bordeaux)
- Decanting (Yes/No)
However, this is your Bible that you would need to commit to memory. Every box and description, with a consistent order.
A few changes with the 2017 grid. On Sight, the word "Viscosity" has been replaced with "Tearing"
Expanding the Fruit Character on the nose: (Baked, stewed, dried, peels, desiccated, tart, jammy)
Organic versus Inorganic Earth/Mineral is back to just "Earth and Mineral"
On Palate, "Pheonolic/ Bitter" is a Yes.No
"Texture" is separated from Body.
Visit the Court of Master Sommelier website for more information and keep posted for Guild tastings and courses that explain the grid in detail.
